Some of my audience wrote to me, saying “My life is such a boring. I really want to outrun it but do not know how to change.” This is the reason behind this blog post.
Nonetheless, before I reveal some ways to change your life to be more exciting, I really want to know your definition of a boring life or why you want to change your life.
To Me, a Boring Life Is …
While my friends say that a life with few social connections or too much peace is a kind of boredom, I do not think so.
Some people – like my granny, prefer tranquil daily routines in which she is passionate about her plants and pets rather than going out with old friends or even children. Still, she claims that her life is nothing like a boring one. Simply put, she has the ones she wants to care for.
In contrast, I consider life with a predictable routine is somewhat boring. You do the same things from time to time: getting up in the morning, going to work or school, going out with friends, going home for dinner, having some chat with parents, reading or watching TV, and going to sleep.
5 Signs That You Need a Change in Life
Are you experiencing such a boring life? – If you are not sure, check the following signs.
You have no energy in the morning
Recently, you open your eyes with some morning depressions. “Sigh, what a day begins!” You feel bad, thinking about tedious things you must complete.
Even when you force your body to wake up for work or school, you start slow, eat less, or even care for your hair or clothing as normal.
You dread going to work
It might be that you are under the weather that you do not want to work. However, it is a big sign for a life change that you are afraid to do monotonous tasks. You simply have neither passion nor motivation.
Your heart is numbing
Apart from the work itself, you even want to avoid social media and outdoor activities because you feel numb. Emotionally, you feel a sense of isolation from the rest of the world.
Hobbies like shopping or hanging out with friends can not raise your mood. It seems like you merely surviving rather than actually live.
You care less, for yourself and others
I always suggest people care less and you might feel much happier. However, it does not mean that it is recommended to pay no attention at all.
Not only for yourself, but you also seem to be likely to take out frustrations with your loved ones. In fact, you might be snippy with your own life, not them.
You hate yourself
You find yourself thinking “ I hate my life” or “I hate myself” more frequently. Even worse, you start comparing your life with others. Then, you find your life even more miserable.
It Is Time To Make Changes in Your Life!
I can change your life. I mean I can help with some advices to change your life in a year.
#1. Take time to reflect your current life
Before you draw out a plan of changing your life for the better, you had better give some thoughts about your current life. Once you reflect it all, you might find out your life is not that bad and there are still many things you do not need to change.
Then, narrow down a list of 10 points you change your life today.
#2. Let go of bad habits to move forward
Easier said than done, I know. Bad habits are supposed to help you deal with boredom and laziness. Nonetheless, they jeopardize both mental and physical health over time and make your life even messier.
When you make a plan for changes, force yourself to replace those bad habits with new ones, such as:
- Getting on a good routine and schedule;
- Treating your body with healthy food;
- Managing time and money wisely; etc.
#3. Think More Positively
When you change your mind, your life will change too. Although it takes time and lots of effort, you should start sooner than never.
In my case, I often try to look at one thing from different perspectives. For instance, when I fail, I will immediately ask for reasons and come up with lessons. At the same time, I encourage myself with things I have done that at least I tried. That way, you will feel better about yourself.
#4. Increase the sense of belongings
You can change your life if you are truly serious about it. Nevertheless, you do not need to complete such a task all by yourself.
Always remember your existing relationships with those who are willing to provide you with useful advice and supports. Obviously, whether it is in your current life or your new life, there are special places for your family and friends.
#5. Step outside the comfort zone
The comfort zone is a behavioral space in which you have a sense of certainty, familiarity, and security.
Unfortunately, this is the source of a monotonous life because all behaviors and activities well fit in a safe routine and pattern. Only when you stay out of that comfort zone can you completely change your life.
This exposes you to the possible stress and pressure, but at the same time, you can grab new chances and live new experiences.
For example, just speak up in your next business meeting instead of sitting quietly as you used to. Or, you should create a challenging vision board and term goals, then try your best.
#6. Observe other people
To live more happily, do not compare yourself and your life to others’. Yet, you should still look at other people and have some good examples you want to follow. It does not mean you stress yourself to be like them but to be inspired by their creative mindset and success stories.
I admire Bill Gates very much partly due to his richness, but more importantly his lifestyle.
For instance, the billionaire is well-known as a voracious reader who brings a book wherever he goes. This habit is extremely useful to copy, so I also try to read at least one book a month. Extremely, there are many life-changing books you must know.
#7. Take up new hobbies
If you find yourself doing the same thing again and again and even the old hobbies can not make you happy with life, then, try new things.
A hobby is supposed to offer a sense of self-efficiency, creativity, and passion. There is also a likelihood that you can unveil your potentials and make your life better.
#8. Meet new people
Along with people around you, strangers you meet in a chance can also become chapters in your life stories. To some extent, they add dimension and change your lifestyle, directly or indirectly.
Thus, next time, you a stranger step towards you and say “hi”, do not hesitate to greet them and even start a friendly conversation. Possibly, that person can be an important friend that changes your life later.
Or even when you only meet them once, you can still get inspired by their words or stories in a positive way.
#9. Travel to new places
The next thing on the lifechanging experiences is to go traveling. Who does not like packing a bag and heading for a new place?
Especially, it is better to travel on your own and you will learn significantly from new cultures you experience and new people you meet.
First of all, you are open to various ways of life at the destinations. Secondly, you need to roll with things from booking a place to communicating with local people. Those valuable experiences come with skills for life. Next, your perspective is broadened in a practical way. From different cultures and values, you learn to evaluate your own values and the meanings of life.
#10. Do volunteer work
Have you ever been involved in volunteering before?
If yes, keep this meaningful work because you might already know how it helps change your life and that of the needed.
If no, then you should dedicate yourself to volunteer at least once. It creates a sense of sharing and self-accomplishment. And when you complete such work, you will no longer hate yourself and your life.
Apart from some advice above, there are many other ways to change your life. Even when you still do not know what and where to start, I appreciate that you have an idea.
I remember a quote:
It is the same for your personal life. Your life has changed from the very moment that you think about it and seek for solutions.
